the Koala Opal ring (blue/green/black opal)

🥹Feeling so privileged to be able to see Koalas in their natural habitat in this beautiful place I call home (Byron Bay, Australia)! 🥰

To pay tribute, I’ve designed and crafted the Opal Koala ring. I cut the shape of the koalas on the lapidary wheel free hand, just using my own guesstimate precision 🧐🤨.

Each Opal Koala gemstone that I make is a one-off, unique creation as not only am I cutting each one free hand so that the shape will not be identical to the next, but also Opal gemstones in themselves have their own individual display properties to begin with!

✨Therefore each Opal Koala ring is one-of-kind just like each of our furry friends in the wild 🐨🫶🏾

This little Koala is made from Lightning Ridge black opal.  He's then set on a sterling silver (925) claw ring band that has been uniquely handcrafted for this little guy.  Can you see his round nose and sleeping eyes?

*It is important to note that this piece is crafted with care and features a 'relaxed' fit setting. This approach takes into account this particular opal's placement on the lower end of the Mohs hardness scale-meaning this opals properties is one that is softer in nature and more delicate (please refer to our Caring for Your Jewels page for more on the Mohs scale).  Therefore, this piece of jewellery allows for a slight, barely noticeable movement of the gemstone. This subtle motion captures and reflects light in a unique way, enhancing the stone's natural sparkle. The result is a beautiful blend of raw elegance and the personal touch of handmade jewellery.
